There was no stopping pregnant Kareena

Kareena Kapoor, the prominent Bollywood star showed the way to many working women by continuing to work even during her pregnancy days. Her decision of not to back down during her pregnancy days, has made her an inspiration for many modern-day working women.
During her pregnancy days she continued working and managed her hectic schedules like she used to do earlier. She looked radiant and was in the pink of her health. It was not just the pregnancy glow but there was something more. At 36, pregnant Kareena Kapoor Khan continued to be one of the most sought after actresses of Bollywood. Recently, she went candid about her enriching experience and some of the age-old myths linked to pregnancy and the associated diet.
Kareena, the gorgeous mom-to-be and the leading nutrition and wellness expert Rujuta Diwekar (who is not only her dietitian but also a friend ) held a live Facebook chat where they discussed healthy eating, pregnancy cravings and much more.
In the interview Kareena said : “I think everybody has been thinking that I am overeating these days, which I am not. It is not important for you to eat more because you are pregnant. Just because you’re carrying another person inside you, doesn’t mean you have a liberty to eat 20 chapattis. Rujuta and I firmly believe that one needs to carry on doing what one has been doing before getting pregnant and just stick to your normal routine.”

Dietary preferences
She preferred to have a lot of vegetables in her pregnancy diet. She revealed: "I was craving for karela (bitter gourd) during those pregnancy days. I really like the taste. Many say that when a bit of sugar is added, the bitterness goes away. But I prefer that real taste. I love all kinds of vegetables, in fact today’s lunch was Lauki(Bottle Gourd), Turi  Jwar and  paranthas(it is an amalgamation of the words parat and atta which literally means layers of cooked dough.) drenched in ghee.  She preferred simple food like curd-rice or dal-rice. One should eat every two hours during their pregnancy.” she chuckled.
Kareena continued: “Strange enough, I am also enjoying a lot of Indian sweets more than the pastries, cakes, whipped cream. I’m eating more home-based sweets like sooji ka pedas and besan ka laddoos. I’m trying to be as good and healthy.”
Rujuta explained very well on Kareena's cravings. According to her, one of the main reasons Kareena craves home-made mithai, rather than western sweets is because they have low glycemic index and blood sugar regulating properties. This allows iron, calcium and minerals to reach the various cells that require energy. According to Rujuta, during pregnancy, you crave things that are more healthy for you because you’re more intuitive. It was also apparently the reason Kareena is craving karela because the vegetable is also known for blood sugar regulating properties, and helps with mood stability.
The actress agreed that there need to be some dietary restrictions while one is pregnant. “You need to watch out what you are consuming. To eat everything doesn’t mean that you have the liberty to have anything at random. Packed foods should be avoided as they have preservatives and many other things added to them.”

Kareena ruled out tea or coffee on an empty stomach as it might create morning sickness. She relied on lemon water with black salt and buttermilk, during her pregnancy days. Seasonal fruits were also a must.
Kareena said one should not hesitate about hitting the gym, post-delivery. "I love the idea of going to the gym.I go with my friends, it's good to have that time, she said.

Kareena concluded – “Some of the girls out there really starve themselves to get six-pack abs, but I think life is not about that. Everybody wants to look great but if you are able to do it with the right food, with a glowing skin and by removing all the fears of not having ghee or a paratha, I think that is greater than having six-pack abs.”

Why Kareena chose bitter gourd
Kareena revealed that she never compromises on things she loves eating.  She said: “I really enjoy the taste of Karela(BITTER GOURD). Many say that when you add a bit of sugar, its bitterness kind of goes away but I don’t like that. I like the fact that it has a sort of bitter, pungent taste to it. It is extremely rich in iron and has all kinds of benefits,” .People have a general tendency to neglect karela-based dishes due to their bitterness. But remember that karela is low in Sodium and Cholesterol. It is also a good source of Thiamin, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Pantothenic Acid, Iron and Phosphorus, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Foliate, Magnesium, Potassium, Zinc and Manganese.
Kareena's tip on “sleep”

According to Kareena the trick is to eat your food and add a little bit of jaiphal (nutmeg) to your cup of milk as it calms your nerves and helps you sleep. A good eight hours of sleep is essential for good health. At the same time, one should remain active.

Lunar Influences

The moon has long been thought to have physical effects on human beings – especially women. The menstrual cycle, conception, and even fertility have been closely linked to the moon’s cycles. How Does The Full MoonAffect Labour and Childbirth? The moon’s effect is called the lunar influence. It is widely believed if a woman is full term around the time the moon is full, its gravitational pull can influence when she will go into labour, Just as the moon’s pull affects the waters on earth, it is believed to affect the amniotic fluid in a pregnant woman’s womb. If the amniotic sac is under pressure, it can rupture and contractions might begin. The waxing of the moon, or in other words, the days during which a new moon transforms itself into a fullmoon is believed to be an ideal time for the conception of the child. As per ancient beliefs, a waxing moon places us in a more positive and energetic frame of mind. This be...

IVF: Long-Term Side Effects on Children

In the United States, the rate of babies being conceived through In vitro fertilization (IVF) is on the rise as per latest studies and medical reports. The assisted reproductive technique, in which eggs and sperm are combined in a laboratory and the resultant embryo is placed in a woman's uterus, saw 2,000 more babies born in 2013 than in the previous year. Around 175,000 In vitro fertilization procedures resulted in the birth of more than 63,000 babies; in 2012 it was slightly fewer than 62,000 babies from 165,000 IVF attempts, as per the analysis of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology. The Society also adds that around 1.5 percent of children born each year in the United States are conceived by some form of fertility treatment. IVF being a complex and expensive procedure that costs around $12,400 in the United States, it is requested by only around 5 percent of infertile couples. But it has still resulted in more than 200,000 babies since its introdu...
